Schon immer neugierig auf verschiedenste Aspekte der Kunst war Chantal besonders vom Arbeiten mit Ihren Händen – malen, zeichnen, bildhauern – fasziniert.

Mit 12 war ihr erster Kontakt mit der Dunkelkammerfotografie. Trotz der sofortigen Begeisterung für die Welt der Fotos hat sich Chantal ihre erste analoge Kamera erst mit 20 Jahren gekauft. Damit begann ihre intensive Beschäftigung mit der Fotografie.

Die wichtigste Entscheidung für ihre künstlerische Laufbahen war der Abbruch ihres Jurastudiums. Mit 22 Jahren meldete Chantal sich zu einem 3-jährigen Kurs für kommerzielle und technische Fotografie an. Sie hat danach 15 Jahre in der kommerziellen Fotografie gearbeitet und sich auf Parfüms und Kosmetika spezialisiert.

Chantal hat die letzten Jahre, die sie in Montreal verbracht hat, kommerzielle Fotografie zu unterrichten.

Chantal has always been curious about various aspects of art, particularly working with her hands, whether that was drawing, sowing or sculpting.

At the age of 12, she was introduced to darkroom photography for the first time and she was immediately in awe. However, it was only around the age of 20 that she purchased her first professional analogue camera and started to explore photography more seriously.

The most pivotal decision to her artistic career was leaving law school to register in a 3-year-long commercial & technical photography course, at the age of 22. Chantal, then, worked for 15 years in commercial photography, specializing in perfumes and cosmetics.

In her final years in Montreal, she had the opportunity to teach commercial photography, where she had studied.

Ihr Einstieg in die kommerzielle Fotografie folgt Chantal nach wie vor in der Art und Weise, wie sie es schätzt, übersehene Details einzufangen. Sei es in Reflexionen, Licht, Farbe oder Textur.

Das einzige Material das Chantal braucht, ist ihre professionelle Digitalkamera. Anstatt ihre Motive nach ihrem Geschmack zu modifizieren, fordert sie sich selbst heraus, die Essenz dieser alleine durch ihre Linse einzufangen.

Her upcoming in commercial photography still follows Chantal in the way she values capturing overlooked details, whether that is in reflections, light, colour or texture: „I let the environment and subjects reveal themselves to me“.

Her professional digital camera is the only material Chantal has truly ever needed. Rather than modifying her subjects to her taste, she challenges herself to capture their essence through her lens alone.

Kunst ist nicht dazu da, verstanden zu werden, sondern sie sollte gefühlt werden und es dem Betrachter ermöglichen, einen Aspekt seiner alltäglichen Realität auf eine andere Art und Weise wahrzunehmen.

Chantal ist bei ihrer Fotografie besonders wichtig, dass sie sich Zeit nimmt, um übersehen Motive freizulegen, für deren Würdigung und Wahrnehmung sich die meisten Menschen nicht die Zeit nehmen.

Art is not something that is meant to be understood, rather, it should be felt and allow the observer to perceive an aspect of their everyday reality in a different way.

This particularly matters to Chantal in her photography: „I take the time to expose overlooked subjects, that most individuals fail to take the time to appreciate and perceive.“

Kunstgrund

Kunst ist für Chantal eine Art der Meditation, eine Möglichkeit, sich ind er Zeit zu zentrieren und eins mit der Umwelt zu werden.

Als Fotografin möchte sie Menschen dazu bringen, das was sie sehen, zu fühlen, nachzudenken und zu hinterfragen. Es ist wichtig zu verstehen, dass abstrakte Kunst in der Fotografie für jedermanns subjektive Interpretation offen ist. Sie steht nicht nur einem bestimmten Publikum offen und hat keine einheitliche Bedeutung.

Kunst ist eine Change für den Einzelnen, sich auszudrücken. Und für das Publikum, den Kopf zu neigen, die Augen etwas weiter zu öffnen und sich etwas vorzustellen.

Art is a form of meditation for Chantal. It is a way to centre herself in time and to become one with the environment.

As a fotographer she wants to make people feel, think and question what they see. It is important to understand that abstract art in photography is open to anyone’s subjective interpretation, it is not only open to specific audiences and there is not one meaning to it. Art is what you make of it.

Art is a chance for individuals to express themselves and for audiences to tilt their heads, open their eyes a little wider and imagine.
